Updates from MakerCraft Studio - February 20

It's been a few weeks since we've shared news, but things have been moving along!

We are awaiting the issuance of our final permit: a building permit. We expect it any time. Until we get that, our major systems contractors cannot get to work. However, we are doing what we can while we're waiting.

Joe finished taking down the old ceiling in the main first-floor space. That was a BIG job. Rob has started rebuilding the front porch, including ordering some lovely period columns to replace the 4 x 4's that are there currently. He also has metal roofing to replace the old shingles. The front porch is the main entrance to our space, so we want it to be stunning, and Rob is making that happen!

Upstairs, Patti and Cass (and friends!) are stripping wallpaper.... so much wallpaper.... and paint... and more wallpaper. The walls have wallpaper that's been painted over, wallpapered over, and then painted again. We could just paint again, but if you're going to do it, do it right.... so that means stripping! Luckily, the wallpaper is paper, so it does come off with water and scraping. We have been so fortunate to have our friends Gail and Toni come help on the weekends. Here we are scraping a couple of the living room walls.

After stripping the wallpaper and old paint, we are down to the plaster walls, which have to be washed. Gail helped by washing this wall as far up as she could reach (we need a ladder to reach the top of the walls), and you can really tell the difference!

As of this past weekend, we have almost finished the living room and only have two bedrooms left to do.

To keep us motivated, Patti and Toni painted one of the walls in the kitchen. We love it and can't wait to see the rest of the place painted!

We also want to share our plans for after we open. Many of you have asked us when we hope to open. Well, all the red tape has certainly delayed our plans, and although we can't tell you for sure when we'll open, we did want to share more about our plans.

We plan to host a retreat each month. Some of them may have a theme, but many of them will be "open crafting" retreats like the ones for which you may already know us. We also hope to offer classes and open crafting time during the week. However, we will also be looking to rent the space to other groups who'd like to use it.

We have the following weekends penciled in for retreats hosted by us. We plan to open at 8 AM on the first day and allow people to stay until about 5 PM on the last day. All meals and linens (sheets and towels) are included. Our tentative price for these weekends (4 days and 3 nights) will be $350 (plus tax). If you can't come the entire weekend, discounted pricing will be offered. We have single, double, and one triple bedrooms. Once we are able to take reservations, you'll be the first to know!
